3D PROJECT

BOX PIANO

With the goal to create a little digital vehicle inspired by Dieter Rams’ simple but effective industrial design, I’ve created a little box, that can cruise around, and play some music.

The Task

The task was to sketch, then 3D Model the idea in Blender and create seperate, short animations in Unity. Since this is a piano, I’ve added sound to the final clips.

I’ve had many more ideas, but decided to stick with the Box Piano because it would force me to put SFX on the clips. I added a little hinge and a lid over the keys, so I could give myself more options to show emotion and movement. I was also instructed to replace the ball-wheels with something I could actually animate.

The final model was still that, a box. But I liked the challange to make it feel alive.

For the sound I grabbed our lawnmower robot and bumped and rolled it around in the cellar, recording the noise with the speaker of my phone. Not very professional I know!
