AVGRUND

Avgrund is a ZHdK team project made with Noe Mael Arold and Rahel “Rage” Gamma. The task was to create, model and film a mockup for the start of a first person game. Each member completed a section of the Level, before we sat together and fused our work in Unity, completing lighting, decorations and creating the recording. My main responsibility was the stairway and bathroom

Credits

Rage was responsible for the Laundromat section and created many little trinkets for decoration. She also handled the overarching sound (footsteps etc,) for sound.

Noe was responsible for the main store and the dining area. He also created the Neonsigns, the Logo and all additional effects and cuts necessary for the video.

I was responsible for the Stairway and Toilet section. I also created the recording route and replaced github by assorting and decorating the whole level via discord instructions. I also created part of the graffiti on the walls.

We thank Gabi from Sweden for answering all our swedish questions.

For this task we were allowed to use assets from the asset store for everything outside the building.

Idea and Process:

We wanted to create an apocalyptic environment, where our main character hides away in a gas station. The setting was inspired by the massive forest fires that cause the sky to turn orange. 

I first greyboxed my area, before adding details in Blender. Any decoration was added in Unity. To create more cinematography we also added animation events, especially in the final stretch.

The sound design happened after the video was recorded. Meaning it’s not in engine, but dubbed over.   

Lessons learned:

Since we weren’t experienced with Github the thing killed our Project two times. Which in turn resulted in me getting very good at placing objects in Unity with two friends watching and instructing on Discord.
