3D PROJECT

CLICKER
TRAINING

Clicker Training is a group project made with Saniya Sagutdinova during the Game Visuals 3 and Game Sound module. The task was to make a small game interaction between two characters. This was a Character Design and Animation exercise, where we focused on the quality of movement and sound. I decided to go with a little four-legged bell creature.

Tools Used
Product

Our finished product was a small digital toy, where players could press a button and the characters performed specific actions on screen. The four-legged Bellboi is my creation.

PROCESS

Character Design Practice

We started with silhouette, association and group ecercises. The idea that a character needs to be adapted to its mechanic, was very insightful. I always find it hard to delve into the illogical, but that’s where it gets interesting.

66 Characters

The goal was not to make 66 GREAT characters. In fact I remember pushing these out in half a day during a 40 degree fever. The goal was to create a variety and then use them to speeddate the characters of other students, trying to find interesting dynamics. I ended up finding a match with Saniya’s character. We both wanted to focus on animation for this project.

Modelling + Rigging

I changed my characters design to something more suitable for a 3D beginner. Instead of attaching bells to a coat, I just turned him into a bell. The rigging process took a while until I was satisfied with how much control I had over the legs. Animation was very fun to do!

Sound

I chose a bell character because I like bells. Recording the sound included me hiding in the closet and clinging bells and keys together. Then I integrated all sounds via FMOD and accessed them via code.

The Game Visuals 4 Module was organized by Florian Faller. Very cool!

The Game Sound Module was organized by Christoph Polus. Very cool!

My lovely teampartner Saniya Sagutdinova modelled, animated and voiced the other character and created a title song for our little game!
